The Encore program at Warner Enhanced Option School serves gifted and talented students in grades K-4 from both Warner and Dan Mills Elementary. The Encore program nurtures, challenges, and develops the potential of high ability students. Encore classes meet for three hours on Wednesdays. These classes involve units of study that focus on creativity and problem solving.
Currently, Encore students are working on units of study centered on building and construction. Students in grades K-2 have explored environmental geometry, simple machines, robots, and construction involving Lego kits. Students in grades 3-4 have been studying mighty structures such as bridges, tunnels, dams, domes, and skyscrapers. This unit has provided students with many opportunities for “building big.”
The Encore program also offers the Early Identification (EID) program for students in grades K-2 at Warner. These enrichment classes develop thinking process skills and help to identify possible gifted students. |
